Côme Ménage
Founder and Design Principal
AIA, NCARB, CPHD (Certified Passive House Designer), MSC. Urban Design
Côme Ménage founded his practice, Re-A.D, in 2017 in historic Brooklyn, New York, bringing his French background and his international perspective to his adopted home town. He and his practice are dedicated to the conception and realization of architectural and cultural interventions that revitalize historic structures and neighborhoods.
Côme has been recently honored with the Chicago Athenaeum and the European Centre for Architecture’s prestigious “Europe 40 under 40®” Architecture and Design Award for 2022-2023.
After moving to Paris at age 13, Côme graduated from high school and began to study medicine in 2001. Having lunch every day at the Ecole des Beaux-Arts next door appealed to his deep interest in understanding how people and cities work ; it soon induced him to apply to the architecture program at the Ecole Nationale Superieure d’Architecture, Paris Val de Seine, enrolling in what was at the time the only atelier embedded among the other fine arts programs — inspiring his ongoing interest in collaborating with fine artists — and earning his Master of Architecture degree in 2007. He also studied at the Universitat der Kunst (UdK) in Berlin as an exchange student under a one-year Erasmus grant in 2005.
Côme arrived in New York in 2009, initially to study for the Master of Science in Urban De-US Team sign degree from Columbia University’s Graduate School of Architecture, Planning and Preservation, during which time he was awarded the Lucille Smyser Lowenfish Memorial Prize for outstanding studio work. The following year, he was a teaching fellow for the advanced studio courses Parametri-Cities 1.0 and 2.0 under Prof. Mario Gooden.
Côme’s professional work began with an internship at Pritzker Prize winner Christian de Portzamparc’s studio in Paris ; he then worked in Paris and in Shanghai for the French firm AS Architecture-Studio, where he broadened his cosmopolitan understanding of how cities can work, and then at ODA-New York, where he gained experience leading projects in the US from initial concept through to final delivery. During his five years at ODA, he helped bring the New York office from
a 10-person operation to an 80+ person one. As an Associate Project Architect, he was in charge of the facade design of many iconic multistory residential buildings across New York City.
Côme lives in Brooklyn with his American wife and frequent collaborator, interior designer Megan Grehl, and their two young children. He is a licensed architect in New York State, New Jersey, Florida, and other states, as well as in France. He is currently a Lecturer at the University of Miami School of Architecture, a mentor for students at the Architectural League of New York, and a member of the Board of Trustees of the New York Landmarks Preservation Foundation.

Our culture:
Re-A.D brings to each project a diverse multilingual international team, working out of its three offices as well as remotely to observe the progress of the firm’s more distant projects, and is organized flexibly to serve a wide variety of commissions. Côme serves as team leader and creative director, working directly with each client from the outset, establishing the vision for every project, and closely reviewing the design as work proceeds. Each project team is led by a project architect responsible for design, documentation, and coordination with other disciplines and builders; currently the firm’s ratio of senior to junior architectural designers is approximately one-to-one. The design teams are supported by the firm’s two operations managers — Gunes Kurtulan and Stan de Saint Quentin—who serve as in-house resources, maintaining day-to-day client communications and ensuring that each project remains on track, on schedule, and on budget, enabling the project architects to focus on design. Together these team leaders, working within the established design vision, help clients understand appropriate options for the best use of their time and investment as their projects move forward.
